FAQQ – Frequently Asked Quilt Questions

Do I have to choose the color and/or pattern used to make my quilt?

Our goal at The Quilt Addict is to create fully customized quilts. You can leave it up to us to make your quilt look fabulous, or we can work with you to help you decide. Just let us know in the special instructions box at checkout if you have colors or a pattern in mind.

May I see a layout of my quilt before you sew it?

Of course! Make a note in the special instruction box when placing your order and we will send you a picture before we sew.

Do you secure the front of the quilt to the back? How do you bind the final quilt together?

We use the traditional method of quilting: stitching the quilt top, batting and quilt backing together. Then we complete the quilt by binding it.

Can you help me finish/fix a quilt that has already been started?

We are always happy to take a look. Contact us with details on the quilt with photos and we can review and provide a quote.

T-SHIRT QUILTS

How do I know what size to order for a t-shirt quilt?

The size and style of the quilt depends on the number of t-shirts you have. Let us know how many t-shirts you have and we can help you decide on size and style.

Typical sizing: Lap quilt 9 shirts; Twin quilt 12, 15, or 16 shirts; Full quilt 20, 24, or 25 shirts; Queen quilt 30 or 36 shirts; King 42 or 49 shirts.

Will you transfer a photo to a T-shirt to be included in my quilt?

No, we do not offer this service currently. You can have a photo put on a t-shirt and we will be happy to include it in your quilt.

May I send in other types of shirts besides T-shirts?

Yes, we can use jerseys, sweatshirts, button-downs, dry fit. Almost any shirt that is machine washable.

What if my t-shirts have holes or stains in them?

We accept any t-shirt you provide expecting you to understand that the quality of your final quilt depends somewhat on the quality of the t-shirts provided. Stains and small tears can add character to the quilt if there is a great story to go along!

Do I need to wash or cut my t-shirts before I send them?

Yes, wash your shirts with detergent only (DO NOT use fabric softener of any kind). No, please DO NOT cut the shirts. We will cut them for you!

May I use the front and the back of my T-shirts?

Yes, use painters tape to mark on the neckline of the t-shirt either F (use Front), B (use Back), or FB (use Front and Back). If you have additional questions, please contact us.

How do I send my T-shirts to The Quilt Addict?

After you place your order, we will contact you with instructions on where to ship your t-shirts.

QUILT CARE

Can I wash my Quilt?

Yes, wash in cold, tumble dry on low or line-dry.

How should I store my quilt?

We hope you are using your quilt always, but in those hot summer months there are certain ways to store quilts properly. We suggest you do not store a quilt directly on wood shelving or in a cedar chest, not storing in a plastic bag, or display on a bed or wall for long periods of time in direct sunlight.

We recommend storing a quilt wrapped in acid-free tissue in specific storage boxes for vintage use. An alternative is an old cotton pillowcase that has been laundered frequently.
